My CompliKAITed Life: Feeling the wanderlust

For my last several columns, I’ve concentrated a lot of time and energy on my plights as a secretary and I haven’t really written about or mentioned my life at home with my family. This is because I moved out!

So … YAY! I have a little 1 bedroom apartment of my own now. It’s one of six units in a behemoth red brick house that’s nearly 200 years old. Also, my new pad is, somewhat ironically, less than a mile from my parents’ house. Within perfect walking distance.

It’s a good feeling to see my hard work continually turning into progress. When I came home in February, I had no job, no car, and no apartment. Now I have all three!

Still, even with all the improvements, I have a perpetual itch in the back of my mind.  Let’s just call it Wanderlust.

My CompliKAITed Life: Sex-retary Effect

I’m a big fan of the show “How I Met Your Mother.” During a particularly memorable episode, the characters discuss the concept of “Circumstantial Hotness.” What is Circumstantial Hotness? You ask. It’s an turbo boost of sexiness due to a change in environment or circumstance. In “How I Met Your Mother,” the theory is proven valid when Robin walks behind the bar and is instantly transformed into a super sexy bartendress.

What does this have to do with being a secretary? Well, you take an average woman….

and put her behind a desk….

and somehow, you get this.

My CompliKAITed Life: Secretary-isms

When I’m not bare-knuckle boxing in cage matches, dancing angrily/offending the elderly in the town of Bomont, or watching Adventure Time, I work as a secretary. A few months ago, I would have thought that “secretary” or “administrative assistant” were detailed-enough job descriptions for most of the world to understand what I do for a (meager) living.

Apparently this is not this case. To illustrate the confusion, I present you with the handy meme above.

When running a Google image search of the word “secretary,” one is likely to get a wide array of pictures, not all of which are suitable for work. In fact, I wouldn’t suggest that you run that kind of search at work.
