I know, I know — you are sick of hearing about Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise‘s split. But I promise that the readers of this site will be interested in this twist, which I somehow managed to miss last week. Apparently, Cruise and Holmes butted heads over, of all things, her first name. While she preferred “Katie,” he pushed hard to get her to become “Kate.”
Holmes was born “Kate Noelle Holmes,” but she’s gone by “Katie” professionally since back in the “Dawson’s Creek” days. However, Cruise was apparently not so into that little “-ie.” While Holmes was pregnant with daughter Suri, Cruise explained in an interview why he had taken to calling his wife “Kate.”
“Katie is a young girl’s name,” Cruise said at the time. “Her name is Kate now – she’s a child-bearing woman.”
