Trivia: GRAMMYs don’t love Kates

grammys

By Kate E. Stephenson

The most astonishing thing happened as I was researching for this week’s Trivia. While I’m usually trying to discover new areas in which Kates thrive, instead this week I found an odd void of Katesthe GRAMMYs!

And now that I’m thinking about it, why is that? Where are our great Kate musicians?

Of course there’s Katy Perry…

Kate Winslet marries Ned Rocknroll! So will she become Kate Rocknroll?

Kate Winslet marries Ned Rocknroll

Stop the presses! Kate Winslet is once again a married woman.

According to the Daily Mail, Winslet tied the knot with boyfriend Ned Rocknroll in a secret service in New York earlier this month. The ceremony was so hush-hush that her parents reportedly had no idea it was happening—apparently the only people to witness the nuptials were Winslet’s children and a handful of friends. Including one Leonardo DiCaprio, who gave Winslet away in the wedding ceremony.

This is Winslet’s third marriage. She said “I do” to Jim Threapleton in 1998. They had a daughter together—Mia—but divorced in 2001. In 2003, Winslet married director Sam Mendes, also in a secret ceremony. Sadly, the pair separated in 2010. They also had one child together, Joe.

Not too, too much is known about Ned Rocknroll. He is the nephew of Richard Branson, and works for his latest venture — Virgin Galactic, which will (maybe soon?) offer flights to space. Born Abel Smith, Rocknroll had just separated from wife Eliza Cowdray when he met Winslet, possibly on the Necker Island trip in which Winslet saved Branson’s mother from a house fire.

Winslet’s spokesperson has confirmed that Winslet is a married woman, and that she and Rocknroll have been engaged since the summer. We wish these two a very happy life together and are secretly hoping that she decides to take his last name. Even if it lacks some hyphens.

kate_winslet_titanic_dress_cgoga

The dress may be gone, but your heart will go on, right? At a recent Hollywood auction, actress Kate Winslet‘s stunning black-and-red beaded dress sold for a whopping $330,000. The dress is featured in some of the most memorable scenes in Titanic, like the moment when star-crossed lovers Jack and Rose first meet. The dress, which was designed by costumer Deborah L Scott, supposedly took more than 1,000 hours to sew.

Other high-grossing auction items included Orlando Bloom’s “Legolas Bow” from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and an X-Wing model from the first Star Wars movie, A New Hope.

Kate Winslet under fire for endorsing drug legalization. Which, she didn’t?

By Kaitlin Marie

Kate Winslet is experiencing some reefer madness, and not in a fun way! The Oscar-winning Winslet appeared in a 17-second video clip promoting the film of her boyfriend’s cousin. The film, titled Breaking the Taboo, is a documentary exploring the failure of the current war on drugs and whether or not decriminalizing recreational drug use is a viable option to end it.

While not in the film itself, Winslet, along with a laundry list of celebrities including Sting and Yoko Ono,  endorsed the documentary in a short video clip. She is now under fire for supposedly endorsing the legalisation of all drugs.

While it seems clear that Winslet’s involvement was mostly a favor to her boyfriend’s uncle and cousin, the 37-year-old actress’s endorsement of the film is being called “silly and irresponsible” by an anti-cannibas group.

Check out Kate Winslet’s “Titanic” screentest

By Kate Torgovnick

Earlier this year, when Titanic 3D arrived in theaters, Kate Winslet said of her star turn in the ’90s classic, “I’m sure I wasn’t really a very good actress.” Now, we get to judge for ourselves.

With the release of the Blu-ray version of the flick this week, we get a first look at Winslet’s screentest for the movie. Notice that it’s not Leonardo DiCaprio at her side. Nope, in this one she’s paired with Jeremy Sisto. If Sisto had landed the part, would there have been, as Winslet put it early this year, a “whole new generation of young men and women who, perhaps … may have been conceived after the first date night of a couple going to see Titanic”?

Check out Kate WInslet’s apartment

Kate-Winslet's-living-room-redo

When I heard that Kate Winslet was putting her New York City apartment up for rent, my first instinct was to make an appointment with the listing agents, stat, just to get a little bit closer to the patron saint of this website. But with the $30,000 per month rent — which is, oh, about 30 times my budget — I was worried that the real estate agency would see right through me. So I am pretty thrilled to see that images of the apartment are now available online. Thanks AOL Real Estate.

According to the New York Daily News, Winslet purchased the apartment with then-husband Sam Mendes in 2004, for $4.995 million. When the couple split in 2010, Winslet remained in the four-bedroom apartment with their two children, Mia and Joe. While Winslet is not currently occupying the 3,300 square foot crib — which boasts a super sized terrace — she is looking to rent it out.

After the jump, a mini tour.

Kate Winslet gets naked in movies to represent for us ‘not perfect’ girls

Kate Winslet in illusion dressBy Kate Torgovnick

Kate Winslet is obviously the patron saint of Kate-book.com. I mean, I think she is the pinnacle of everything a Kate should be. But I am getting an eensy, teensy bit tired of her sounding the trumpet for “not perfect” women everywhere. In her latest interview with the British newspaper The Sun, Winslet says that she feels it’s her duty to strip down in flicks like “Titanic,” “Holy Smoke,” “The Reader,” and “Mildred Pearce” … to represent for Team Not Super Model.

“I look like the people that walk down the street. I don’t have perfect boobs, I don’t have zero cellulite — of course I don’t — and I’m curvy,” says Winslet in the interview. “If that is something that makes women feel empowered in any way, that’s great … On a deeper, subconscious level, it’s one of the reasons why I’ve allowed my stupid self to be so naked on screen.”

Love you, Kate. But I didn’t pass a single person on the street today that looks as stunning as you. And, really, you can’t fool us—because we’ve seen them often. You do too have perfect boobs!

Luckily, Winslet made up for this with other quotes in the interview.

Kate Winslet is very grateful for her buttocks

Kate Winslet Vanity Fair ItaliaYou know how, sometimes, when you speak to a native of another language—rather than asking for a bottle of water like you meant to, you panic and end up spitting out some sentence you heard somewhere. Well, next time I am dealing with an Italian, I am concerned that the only words I’ll be able to get out will be, “Felice del mio lato B.” Why? Because Kate Winslet uttered them in an interview with Vanity Fair Italia this month.

So what does it mean?

“I am sincerely grateful for my buttocks.”

Celine Dion admits that “My Heart Will Go On” kind of makes her sick, too

Celine Dion and Kate Winslet

“‘My Heart Will Go On’ gave me the opportunity to be associated with a classic that will live forever. If I just count how many times I’ve sung it, maybe it’ll get me sick. If [Kate Winslet] feels tired just hearing it and like throwing up, I’m glad she was not the one singing it.”

—Celine Dion responds, kind of hilariously, to Kate Winslet’s comments back in March that the singer’s ubiquitous tune makes her “feel like throwing up” and incites her to give “a massive internal eye roll.” [Today]

Trivia: Kate Winslet, a hat trick of Titanic proportions

By Kate E. Stephenson

Well, I thought the song would never stop going on … and apparently, it won’t. Titanic” remains one of the most popular films of all time. So much so that fifteen years after its 1997 debut, the melodrama swan dove into theaters again, this time in 3D. Arguably the movie of the 20th century, “Titanic” racked up almost every movie award known to the Western world. With 11 Academy Award nominations, the film tied “Ben-Hur” for the most nods for a single film ever. (“The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” later made it a three-way pile up.) And while much of that can be attributed to mega movie mogul, James Cameron, the real magic blossomed with a character named Rose.

Played by Kate Winslet, a then little-known actress out of England, Rose stole Jack’s heart and movie audiences everywhere swooned at the on-screen romance. Moved by the haunting scene of Rose promising to “never let go” as she releases Jack’s hand, we (yes, I paid my $7.50 three times) cried as the freezing waters engulfed his lifeless body after heroically saving Rose’s life. (If I spoiled the end of the movie for you—seriously! It’s about the Titanic.)

Kate Winslet wants you to skip foie gras

On July 1, chances are that you will no longer be able to purchase foie gras in the state of California. Apparently, back in 2004, then-governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into effect a law that gave producers until that date to stop making the delicacy.

Now that the date is quickly approaching, chefs throughout the state are naturally pissed. According to United Press International, about 100 have signed a petition against the law. Still others say they are going to do what chefs in Chicago did when the sale of foie gras was made illegal there in 2006—they started giving it away to customers for free. Four months later, the ban was overturned.

So what leverage do  anti-foie gras folk have? Why, Kate Winslet.

Kate Flashback: Ellen DeGeneres joins Kate Winslet in ‘Titanic 3D’ nude scene

James Cameron has said that he only made a single change to “Titanic 3D” from the original cut of the film released in 1997. Apparently, after an astrophysicist pointed out that the nighttime sky depicted above Kate Winslet as she floats in the water was nowhere near what it would have been on April 15, 1912, Cameron decided to redo the constellations in the scene. However, earlier this week Ellen DeGeneres shared a video of what could have been had Cameron decided to reinsert her in her rightful role as the artist who painted Winslet nude alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.

Yeah, Ellen is kidding. But the result is pretty darn funny.
