Kate Hudson makes her parents proud

kate-hudson-parents

By Kaitlin Marie

You’re never too grown up or too famous to make your parents proud, as Kate Hudson proved recently. Her appreciative parents — actress Goldie Hawn and actor Kurt Russel — were caught this weekend snapping a few photos in front an enormous poster of their daughter in an Ann Taylor display in downtown New York.

Kate, who skyrocketed to fame after her Oscar-nominated performance in 2001′s Almost Famous, has since starred in numerous films and been the postergirl for a myriad cosmetic lines and beauty products. It’s heartwarming to see such a typical display of pride an affection coming from a family that’s no stranger to fame and fortune.

Stars: they’re just like us! Right?

Obsessed with: Kate Hudson, lady in red

Kate Hudson at amfAR

A red dress is always a bold look. But Kate Hudson has really taken things to the next level with this insanely gorgeous gown that she wore Thursday night, to amfAR’s third annual gala. Not only does the dress feature daring cleavage and a sexy mermaid fit, but the cut-out shoulders feels so origami gone right. Absolutely love this look.

Here’s wishing that Katy Perry had taken a style lesson from her friend before getting ready for the evening. Find out why after the jump.

What’s up with Kate Hudson’s neck in this Ann Taylor ad?

Kate Hudson for Ann Taylor

By Kate Torgovnick

I think it’s absolutely brilliant that Ann Taylor has tapped Kate Hudson to be their spokeswoman for the past few seasons — she brings the perfect dose of youth to the retailer informally known as “Forever 41,” not to mention the perfect boho edge to the brand known for work-wear. And I totally love the looks Hudson was photographed in for the brand’s fall collection. My favorite? This sleek navy blue peplum ensemble with a pink belt.

However, as the Huffington Post notes, something seems off here. Hudson’s head is at a truly bizarre angle to her body. I mean, if she were stretching her neck sideways, wouldn’t her head by tilted a bit too? Could this be a Photshop fail?

Regardless, check out two more gorgeous Kate Hudson for Ann Taylor looks after the jump.

Kate Hudson loved putting makeup on her brother

Kate and Oliver HudsonKate Hudson had a special way of torturing her brother, Oliver, the hottie in the photo to the left. The actress tells People that she used to practice applying makeup on him.

“My poor brother,” Hudson said. “He was kind enough to be my mannequin, and let me experiment on his face. I’d put blue eye shadow on him and we’d laugh.”

While Hudson now leaves her brother alone, she says that she still has a deep love of blush, lip gloss and eyeshadow.

Kate Flashback: Remember Penny Lane in “Almost Famous”?

Even though Kate Hudson is Goldie Hawn’s daughter, she wasn’t a star in her own right until 2000, when she appeared in Cameron Crowe’s “Almost Famous.” Hudson was so freaking charming in the role that it wasn’t just teenage music journalist William Miller who fell in love with her—pretty much all of America did. Hudson took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for the part, and was nominated for an Oscar.

But interestingly, the role wasn’t supposed to be hers. As movie legend has it, Crowe originally cast Canadian actress Sarah Polley as Penny Lane, and Brad Pitt as rocker Russell Hammond.

Kate Hudson will guest star on “Glee.” But can she sing?

Yesterday, Fox Entertainment announced  that “Glee” will have a very exciting guest star next season—the amazing Ms. Kate Hudson. (Okay, fine, they also announced the same for Sarah Jessica Parker, but we’re not nearly as interested in her for namist reasons.) The network gave very little information about what exactly Hudson will be doing on the show, but they did reveal that she would be part of a “multi-episode arc,” potentially dealing with McKinley High School graduates Rachel Berry, Finn Hudson, and Kurt Hummel as they enroll in a performing arts college in New York City.

This news obviously brings up one very important question: can Kate Hudson Sing?

The answer is yes.

Kate Hudson gets the most scathing reviews ever in “A Little Bit of Heaven”

Kate Hudson is in a serious romantic comedy rut. I stuck with her through “How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days,” and “Bride Wars,” and “You, Me and Dupree” which—admit it—isn’t all that terrible to watch when it comes on USA on a Sunday afternoon. But when I saw the above preview for Hudson’s latest, “A Little Bit of Heaven,” I was concerned. I mean, the woman once nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of Penny Lane has sunk to the level of a flick about a mean girl who gets cancer, but falls in love with her doctor as she gets treatment?

However, I couldn’t have imagined just how bad the reviews for this film would be. I mean, every review I’ve read so far has been scathing. Here is a sampling.

One Kate rocks the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, while another flops big time

Kate Hudson and Kate Upton at the White House Correspondents DinnerKate Hudson had hands down my favorite look at Saturday night’s 98th annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. The new mama stunned in a purple-sequined, floor-length gown by Jenny Packham that was both buttoned-up and completely whimsical at the same time. I even loved Hudson’s hair, which was piled high on her head in a bun, and her black spangly accessories.

But Kate Upton, on the other hand?

Kate of the Week: Kate Hudson not secretly married, Katie Couric the next Oprah?

Katy Perry surrounded at French train station

Looks likes the Kates, Katys, and Catherines of the world have been mighty busy this week. Here, your weekly roundup of name-specific news.

  • Katy Perry covered Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “N***** in Paris” for BBC Radio 1 in London. [The Hollywood Gossip]
  • The next day, she headed to Paris, where she was met at the train station by new beau Baptiste Giabiconi. That photo above gives me a new understanding of what it’s like to have photographers charting your every move. Terrifying! [Daily Mail]
  • Apparently, Perry also warned a woman celebrating her bachelorette party at a London club, “Don’t do it! Don’t get married.” [NY Post]
  • And shot back at reports that she insulted Beyoncé by tweeting, “Havin a slow news day or what?!? Get a life, cuz it’s not mine!” [E! Online]
  • Author Kate Stone Lombardi shoots big ole holes in theory that guys who are close to their mothers are wimps in her book “The Mama’s Boy Myth.” [ABC News]
  • After saying earlier in the week “when my daughter married a British rocker,” and launching intense media speculation that Kate Hudson had secretly married Matthew Bellamy of Muse, Goldie Hawn has corrected the record and said it’s not true. [Chicago Tribune]

Obsessed with: Kate Hudson for Ann Taylor

Kate Hudson for Ann TaylorAnn Taylor, the store referred to as Forever 41 by some of my more fashiony friends, is making good use of hiring Kate Hudson to be its new brand ambassador. The effervescent blond is currently appearing in the store’s windows, wearing a truly adorable black-and-white striped dress. Other pieces in the window are bright, poppy, and colorful. In other words, cute. Also, young. I also love that on their website, Ann Taylor had Hudson curate her favorite items from the store, from a sunny yellow bag to a swingy, funnel-neck trench coat.

Best part: Hudson’s Kate signature also appears in store windows.

9 Kates who’ve gone naked in magazines

In March, newsstands will boast two covers featuring famous Kates in their birthday suits. First, Kate Walsh of “Private Practice” stripped down for the cover of Shape magazine, saying “I was terrified, but I really wanted to do a naked cover.” Next, model-of-the-moment Kate Upton took her clothes off for a Marilyn Monroe-inspired cover for Muse magazine.

Not every celebrity out there has the cojones to take it all off for magazine spread. This got me thinking—do people named Kate especially enjoy doing nude photo shoots? After some careful investigation, I believe that this theory might actually hold some water. Here, nine famous Kates who’ve modeled sans clothes for magazine spreads. Click on the thumbnails to look through the images, and read on after the jump to find out the story of each shot.

Kate Hudson’s dad swears his book is more ‘apology’ then ‘tell-all’

Bill Hudson book coverWhen news leaked out earlier this year that musician Bill Hudson was releasing a book in which he called famous daughter Kate Hudson a “spoiled brat,” I was concerned that he had gone to the Lynne Spears School of Parenting. I’m referring, of course, to Spears’ 2008 memoir, in which she revealed that daughter Britney had lost her virginity at age 14, leading their estranged relationship to become even more strained. See also: Nancy Dow, Jennifer Aniston’s mother, who wrote a book called From Mother and Daughter to Friends: A Memoir. It was years before Aniston made up with her mom.

But Bill Hudson tells Radar Online that his new book, 2 Versions: The Other Side of Fame & Family, isn’t intended to air Kate Hudson’s dirty laundry. He furthers that it isn’t about bashing ex-wife Goldie Hawn or their older child, actor Oliver Hudson.

“It is not a trashy tell-all,” Hudson explains. “It’s my side of what happened and it’s backed with facts and Goldie’s own words and Kate’s own words and my words and feelings.”

Hudson even calls the book an olive branch of sorts.
