There are so many fascinating Kates out there. And every week, Kate-book.com is resolving to introduce you to a new one. This week, I would like you to meet Kate Pedersen, 29, of Tucson, Arizona. Without further ado, 13 questions with Kate.
What do you do?
I am an RN and work in critical care nursing. All of my patients are really sick and most are mechanically ventilated and sedated.
How did you get started in your line of work or study?
Nursing is actually my second career. I was working at Canyon Ranch as a manager in the spa and was manager on duty for the hotel one night when a client went into anaphylactic shock. I enjoyed the adrenaline rush of the situation. A week later I was getting a pedicure from one of my staff and she told me about this accelerated nursing program for people that already have bachelors degrees. A week later, I quit my job and started my journey to nursing.
What’s something you wish people knew or understood better about what you do?
Not to underestimate me!
In an ideal world, where making a living weren’t an issue, what would you be doing?
Traveling the world!!! I would be sitting in Paris right now drinking champagne and eating a Ladurée macaroon!
What’s a band, television show, book, or movie that you hope Kate-book readers will go watch, listen to, or read RIGHT NOW?
Kaskade!!!! Any song by him, because he is an amazeballs DJ!!! My favorite song of the moment is “It’s You, It’s Me” … l-o-v-e! I also am obsessed with TV show “Portlandia.” I lived in Oregon and am an Oregon girl at heart … this show is just hilarious and kinda true!
What’s your favorite stop to make on a road trip?
Must admit I haven’t been on too many road trips, but my favorite stop is the destination!
Who is your celebrity doppelganger?
I used to get Reese Witherspoon all the time. The other day, one of my patient’s family member’s said I looked like an angel. Angels are celebrities … right?!?!?
What’s the first concert you ever went to?
My first concert was a music fest with Everclear and Long Beach Dub Allstars among many others! Oh, sooo many stories from that day. It will forever bring a smile to my face!
If you were forced to get a tattoo right at this moment, what would you get?
I would either get my monogram, or the quote “not all who wander are lost” on my wrist.
What’s your favorite thing about your name?
That it is simple and classic!! I heart my name!! I love that my name is “just” Kate, as I say when people ask me if it is short for anything.
Your least favorite thing about your name?
That people call me Katie. My name is Kate!! (Not that Katie isn’t a great name.)
Who is your favorite famous Kate?
Kate Hudson … she is super fabu!!
Tell me about a Kate out there who you wish were a household name.
This is a hard one!! Hmmm … I have always wanted my own reality tv show!
