Kate Middleton relinquishes the nude stockings and sensible heels for a night

Kate Middleton in Rouland Mouret gownDon’t get me wrong, Kate Middleton has lovely style. Lovely enough that I actually agree with Madame Tussauds decision to create four different wax sculptures of The Duchess, each in a different gown she made famous. But I do have to admit that I sometimes find myself disappointed with Middleton’s unending reliance on nude stockings, short heels, and skirt suits. I mean, boring.

So on Tuesday night, I was thrilled to see Middleton up the va-va-voom factor at the annual meeting of the Thirty Club, an organization for the UK’s media elite. While husband Prince William gave a speech at the dinner, all eyes were trained on Middleton, who stunned in a long-sleeved, floor-length, cream-colored creation by Rouland Mouret.

The gown featured a thigh-high slit that gave flashes of Middleton’s left leg, usually kept demurely under wraps. The Duchess opted for a pair of sky-high, silver alligator-print Jimmy Choo sandals to punctuate the look, along with a pair of blingy earrings and a white-and-silver striped clutch. In the end, she looked divine.

Mouret commented today on Middleton choosing his gown, which was originally made in teal for his fall 2009 collection..

“I am absolutely delighted that The Duchess of Cambridge chose to wear my Lombard gown,” he told the Daily Mail.

Us too.

Perhaps because the barge was fully carpeted in red—complete with plush red thrones for the Queen and Prince Phillip— Middleton decided to garb herself in the very same cherry shade. She wore a stunning Alexander McQueen dress with a body conscious top and a pleated bottom. She paired the look with a red fascinator and a matching clutch. Only her shoes bucked the red trend—repeated in the 10,000 freshly cut roses aboard the royal barge—as she instead opted for her usual nude-colored heels. [...]
