Filming sex scenes is awkward, as actors often like to remind you. But Kate Beckinsale tells Women’s Health magazine that things were far more iffy for Colin Farrell when the two shot their intimate scenes in the upcoming remake of “Total Recall.” Why? Because Beckinsale’s husband, Len Wiseman (left), was directing the movie.
“I think it was worse for Colin,” Beckinsale says of the scene. “It’s awkward if you have to fondle the director’s wife. Especially with Len saying, ‘All right that’s it, you’re fired.’”
Oddly, these words sound like almost an exact echo of Kate Winslet describing shooting her sex scenes with Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie “Revolutionary Road,” with her then-husband Sam Mendes directing.
“It was a profoundly weird experience,” Winslet told People. “Sam was there lining the scene up. I’d get things like, ‘Press your hands into his back! No, his back!’ You just have to deal with it. Leo was remarkably fine with the whole thing … I had a total meltdown.”
Of course, things didn’t turn out so well for Winslet and Mendes. A year and a half after their collaboration came out, they split by “mutual agreement.” Winslet went on to break model Louis Dowler’s heart, and now appears happy with new beau, Ned Rocknroll. Meanwhile, Mendes is dating actress Rebecca Hall, who was rumored to be the “other woman” when the two split.
Honestly, I think it’s probably a good sign for Beckinsale and Wiseman’s relationship that he wasn’t all business as usual watching his wife faux get it on with another guy. Because, that’s just a little strange.
And can I just say for the record that Beckinsale and Wiseman are one of the most attractive couples I have ever seen? Wiseman may be behind the camera, but he can certainly out-chiseled-jawbone any major movie star.
