The lovely Cate Blanchett stepped out on Tuesday night to present at the 2012 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards in Sydney. She combed her hair into a messy-to-perfection updo and threw on a golden Alexander McQueen dress. While the frock would have made most actresses look like a piece of tinsel crumpled up in the corner a week after the Christmas tree has been taken down, Blanchett looks thoroughly amazing in it. Ditto for a Louis Vuitton dress that Blanchett wore to a cocktail party in Rome over the weekend. On most people—totally nuts. On Blanchett—thoroughly gorgeous.
This is because the dresses follow Cate’s favorite fashion rule: when in doubt, wear something gold. Don’t believe me? After the jump, many many examples of Blanchett dressing like she’s an Oscar. Or maybe more accurately, a Golden Globe.
Honestly, I can’t tell why gold works so well for Blanchett. Perhaps it’s because her hair is so close to golden that it creates a monochromatic, pixie-esque look?
Whatever it is, Blanchett has clearly found her style niche. Every time she appears in magazines, the editors choose to swath her in gold. And then there’s her golden look in the “Lord of the Rings” movies.
How do you feel about wearing gold? Does this look work for everyone, or just for Cate Blanchett?
